Brief Answer:
This could be due to Seroquel

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Welcome to Health Care Magic

I can understand your concern. He is taking Mirtazapine and Fluvoxamine which are serotonergic drugs.

After his recent breakup he started taking Valium and Seroquel or Quetiapine which is an antipsychotic drug.

Though the drug is safe and doesn't cause extra pyramidal side effects but in some individuals who also take other psychoactive drugs it might result in slurred speech.

If possible ask him to reduce the dose of Quetiapine to 50 and his symptoms will improve or drugs like Trihexiphenidyl in low dose can help to reverse this side effect.

No need to worry. If possible talk to his doctor for reduction of doses.

Hope this helps you. If you have more doubts , feel free to ask again.

Thanks

I was really looking for confirmation that with his current 2 "prescribed drugs" Mirtazapine and Fluvoxamine, could taking the others be the cause of his slurred speech in particular the Seroquel?

He isn't on the valuim or Seroquel he only took it recently to help him sleep and took an extra dose last night to knock himself as he couldn't sleep and had to start work at 7 am. This morning was when his speech was worse. He doesn't take it on a regular bases.

I don’t know what Trihexiphenidy is or what serotonergic means. I am not a dr please answer with lay man terms

Brief Answer:
Reduce the dose of the drug

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Serotonergic drugs are those drugs that are used in depression and anxiety and helps to increase serotonin in brain. These drugs are relatively safer drugs.

When Quetiapine was started with these drugs then this increased the risk of side effects of these drugs which resulted in slurred speech. Ask him to take the reduced doses of the Seroquel to prevent such side effects again.

Trihexiphenidyl is a medicine used to prevent side effects of antipsychotics like Quetiapine. As he is not regularly taking Seroquel so I don't think there is need for this drug.

Thanks, Hope this helps you, if you have more doubts you can ask again, don't hesitate.
