Thanks for posting your query.

Your father is taking Metoprolol; I would like to know the dosage of it in mgs. This medicine belongs to cardio selective Beta-blocker. If you are taking metaprolol it should not be stopped suddenly.

Albeit, it may not prevent heart attack.

Heart attack is due to blockage of coronary artery, has many risk factors, and causes which predisposes to heart attack.

As I see, his age is 83 years.

A Major surgery itself could be a big stress for the patient.

Tell me if he is hypertensive, smoker, diabetic, a sedentary person, or has deranged lipid profile.
