Can Mononucleosis Infection Cause Cognitive Impairment?

Question: My son was has mono and keeps having fever that comes and goes. He has been like this for a week now. my daughter told me his eyes are moving back and forth very quickly when you ask a question .
He also is saying things that make no sense with the conversation he's having with you. Delusional.
What could be causing this?
