I understand that. My surgeon wants to refer me to physiatrist as he thinks it may be caused my entrapped nerve in abdomen. I have never heard of this and can find no information online.

Since you had surgery, it’s possible that small nerves that supply the abdominal wall may be damaged or compressed by the fibrous tissue formation the after surgery.
Unfortunately it can’t be confirmed by tests such imaging, clinical examination and exclusion of other possible causes is necessary.
Parting from the location of the pain, urinary bladder conditions should be excluded first.
