Can One Eat Non Vegetarian Food After Taking Rabies Vaccination?

Question: Hi I was bitten by a stray Dog within 15 mins Took anti Rabbies vaccine .My friends and Relatives Instructed not to eat non veg is that right? And also I have smoking habit but reduced now can I smoke one or two times while taking vaccine ? Kindly plz answer

Hi,
welcome to HCM.

Yes,you can non-veg food or whatever you want since anti rabies vaccine and dog bite has nothing do with your diet or even with smoking.

Also there is no known interaction between smoking (or even alcohol) with rabies vaccine means vaccines will be very much effective even after taking non-veg food or smoking.

However,smoking is completely injurious to our health,so I will not recommend personally to smoke.

Please complete the full course for anti rabies vaccine as prescribed by your doctor.It is must for your safety.

yes I'm trying to quit smoking reduced . Then other doubt is can I let it as open wound or I should cover with cotton or something? I'm cleaning the wound daily with dettol should I do something else ?

Thanks for the reply.

It is good that you are trying to quit smoking.

First of all clean the wound with simple soap and water thoroughly(most important part is this cleaning) . Afterwards You can cover the wound with any antiseptic (Dettol or Savlon) until the wound starts healing and if the wound is not so big then there is no need of any oral antibiotics or no need to do anything else.

Generally,this kind of wound gets healed within 5 to 7 days.
