Brief Answer:
No need of such worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to HCM forum.

Using someone's mouth wash is unlikely to cause any disease, as there is no direct or indirect contact between the two.

Irritated gums usually indicates beginning of gingivitis. In the initial stage, this usually responds to anti bacterial mouth wash lotions and keeping good oral hygiene. Otherwise, we may need antibiotics too.

It will be fine if you can see your dentist without delay. He can guide you both in the evaluation and management of gingivitis and refilling.
Meanwhile, keep good oral hygiene and do frequent mouth wash with warm saline. If the irritation appeared after starting the mouth wash, this may indicate sensitivity to the mouth wash, and it is better to avoid further exposure.

Hope this will answer your query.
Wishing you good health.
Thank you.

Thanks Doctor. I was just wondering about a hepatitis viruses, or any other virus or strep throat, etc., living in the liquid, perhaps even traces of blood of an infected person after brushing teeth and taking a swig from the bottle/no cup. Then can someone with sores in mouth get infected, if they were to use the same bottle? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Be confident.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,

No need of such worry. This is only a remote, theoretical possibility.I have not seen any such incident described in literature or text books.
Also, pathogenic bacteria or viruses are unlikely to survive in such mouth wash lotions.

I can assure you that this worry is out of scope.
Wishing you good health always.
Thank you.

Last concern. Performing unprotected oral sex then using mouth wash right after, could this increase entry of disease into any open cuts, gums or unfilled cavity? Or will the mouth wash kill the virus?
