Question : Am curious if my Mild Mitral Valve Regurgitation could have been caused by all the Perio work I have had done in all my 83.5 Yrs. I used to be able to run long distances and now I can't even run 4 minutes. Just wondering, as I don't plan on having any work done this late in life. Oh, I do a run/walk every other day of a little over 3 miles and was wondering if I should worry about a heart attack, at my age, because of my condition. I must also say it's like holding my breath when I run and not pleasent at all.

Brief Answer: Possible gout attack,not heart attack... Detailed Answer: Hi, Perio work you have done all your life does not cause mitral valve regurgitation. Instead, gout can cause Mitral regurgitation as uric acid is deposited in the mitral valve causing regurgitation.
