Can Pinched Nerves Lead To Painful And Frozen Shoulders?
Question: i have had x-rays and have found a pinched nerve in my neck and chips (can't think of the word-not actual chips) in the shoulder. could this cause very painful and frozen shoulder and should i just give up and get cortisone shots? i am taking nsaid, pain killer, and using ice.

A pinched nerve in neck happens due to spondylosis. Frozen shoulder is a different issue but it can cause a muscle spasm restricting the movements in the area. An MRI scan will help in diagnosis.
In addition to ice and pain killers the treatment includes
1. Use of cervical collar helps in immobilisation and brings relief.
2. Medical drugs like pain killers - acetaminophen/ibuprofen and muscle relaxants might be helpful.
3. Methylcobalamin supplements are also recommended for nerve compression symptoms.
4. Cervical isometric exercises are beneficial to maintain the strength of the neck muscles. Neck and upper back stretching exercises, as well as light aerobic activities, also are recommended under the guidance of a physical therapist.
5. Hot fomentation helps in relieving acute symptoms.
6. You can avoid using a pillow.
