Question: Can a woman ovulate during her period? Or even the day right after it ends? If so, how rare/unlikely is that?

Brief Answer:
Less than 1%

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The chances of ovulation during the periods or just after the period is less than 1% if she has a regular cycle of 25-35 days with bleeding for 5-7 days. During the periods, it is the least fertile period of the cycle and the chances of ovulation or conception are practically zero.
But since the duration of cycle cannot be predicted with 100% accuracy, it is better to use a protection. This will prevent any infections also.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Thanks! What if the cycle used to be 28 days, but recently (this current month) was shorter at only 23 days when the period began? How does that increase the odds?

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Periods less than 25 days duration are usually anovulatory. But ovulation can happen on day 8 or 9. I the bleeding persisted for 7 days then immediately after period can be her fertile period. Chances of ovulation increase to 25% in such cases.
Hope my answer is helpful.
