Question : can probiotics cause dark stool
Brief Answer:
not a known side effect
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Probiotics are not usually associated with dark stool. Iron supplements and peptobismol can be associated with this color change.
Dark stool can also occur is there is blood from the upper gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, small intestines). As this blood travels through the bowel, it changes causing the stool to appear black.
If iron supplements or peptobismol are not being used, and the dark stool continues, it would be best to be assessed by your doctor.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
