Question : I woke up with a rash on my left arm, that looks like a hickey. It starts on the bottom joint in my fingers, across the whole of the back of my hand and halfway up my arm. It doesn't hurt or anything, just not suer what it is.

Brief Answer:
Capillaritis

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

It seems to be capillaritis which is inflammation of the tiny body vessels. It has multiple causes like insect bite, drugs, infections and sometimes occurs without any cause. If it is present on one arm only and has a sudden onset it seems to be insect bite hypersensitivity reaction most likely.

I would recommend you to apply topical steroid like cortisone cream on the affected areas twice daily and take antihistaminic like tablet chlorpheniramine maleate 4 mg once daily at bedtime.

I hope to have answered your query and would be happy to answer any further queries.
Regards,
Dr. Asmeet
