Question : My Father is 84 years old and had a TAVR procedure in March. He was in great shape before his procedure and very physical. He was placed on numerous medications because of Atrial Fibrillation. He is currently tanking 100mg of Amiodarone, 3.125 Mg of Coreg, 100 mg. of Losartan 12.5 mg HCL, 80 mg. of Lipitor, 5mg. of Warfarin, and 81 mg. Aspirin EC tablet. He takes each medicine once per day with Coreg every 12 hrs. His INR levels have been 2.5, 2.6, and 2.3 the last 3 weeks. His takes his blood pressure several times daily, his Systolic is usually between 120 to 150 mostly 130 to 140 range, his Diastolic is usually between 70 to 90, with heart rate between 55 to 80 bpm. He has been experiencing blurred Vision and sometimes in one eye like a shade being pulled over, he feels Nauseous almost to the point of fainting, he also gets head pains at times, he has itchiness in his ears at times, and feels very weak and tired all the time. He has vomited once after he felt like fainting. He has had another hospital stay in April when he was experiencing Stroke like Symptoms. He had an MRI, and an MRA of the head and Neck. His test showed that he had some TIA Stroke Activity with no damage to his Brain. All of his Stroke Physiological tests show he has no Deficiencies. The last hospital visit he was on Xarelto and he had a high White cell count between 20 and 35, and also a high Red Cell Count. He was diagnosed with a Urinary Infection and was treated with Antibiotics and a mild Steroid. The Hospital decided to take him off of Xarelto and place him on Warfarin in order to test INR levels, because Xarelto is not easy to test the levels He seemed to feel better after his blood levels were in range, but his Blurred vision keeps coming back, itching of the ears, hoarse voice, nausea feeling like fainting, and weak and tired. My question is how do I tell the difference between Stroke Symptoms and Side Affects from the medication he is on? I feel he is over medicated, although it is very risky with his Stroke History to ween him off his medicine. I would also like to know if the side affects from his medicine can also cause Palpitations, Atrial Fibrillation, and Accelerated Heart Rate? Thank you for your consideration

Brief Answer:
Deceased heart rate

Detailed Answer:
Dear sir, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns. Amiodarone, XXXXXXX and losartan commonly cause hypotension and decreased heart rate not accelerated heart rate. However , the three medications tend to have cardiovuscular side effects including arrhythmias and cardiac dysfunction. So, I would recommend that you get a monthly check up on your cardiac functions with an ecg and an echocardiogram.. Also Coreg can commonly cause chest pain..
However you need to watch out for stroke warning signs including face dropping, difficult speech , weakness of one side of the body.. I hope you find this helpful. if you don't have any other clarifications then please close the discussion..
