Can Single Dose Of Antibiotic Alter The Clinical Status Of UTI?

default
Posted on Wed, 14 May 2014
Question: Last night, I felt a lot of pressure in my bladder and a constant need to urinate. There was no pain or burning sensation when I released myself but I noticed blood on the tissue and some blood stains in the urine. I was given antibiotics and took my first pill last night. No discomfort or need to go to the bathroom all night. This morning, I am 100% back to normal. How can it be possible that one pill fixed it all? Is it really a UTI? This morning my breasts are very tender….

Brief Answer:
A single dose can change the picture

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your very observant and elucidate history.

Very apt question as to how a single pill fixed it all.

The best part of UTI is a single dose can alter the clinical picture so much. Most of the antibiotics are excreted from the kidneys and its tracts and the antibiotic which was prescribed really worked well. It is real UTI.

The tenderness of the breasts may not be related to the resent problem. It may be a part of your periods.

I would request you to take such medicines / antibiotic for 7 to 1 week

How long do I need to be abstinent from sexual intercourse? Is it contagious if my husband and I have intercourse? It is not painful now but then again, it never was... should I wait until I am finished with the antibiotics?

Brief Answer:
abstinence for a week- not contagious.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Abstinence from sex helps indirectly by avoiding further burden of infection as urethra in females is short and the infection easily travels up the tract during intercourse.

You may lease abstain for about a week only.

It is not contagious.

Take plenty of oral water to flush out the infection.
