Question : I had a root canal done recently on a front tooth and my endodontist wants to keep the canal empty for a while due to other circumstances going on. He used a product called calcium hydroxide. My question is this - can the calcium hydroxide paste be used solely as the outer temp filling without filling the canal and leaving it empty?

                                    Brief Answer:
Calcium hydroxide is filled in the canal too
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for writing to us.
Well, firstly tell me why did he leave the canal empty?
You said due to other circumstances going on, can you tell me what kind of circumstances going on?
If there is infection then Calcium hydroxide is filled in the canal as it has anti bacterial properties..
Please revert back with answers.

Due to severe neuralgia, the neurologist who is working with the dentist wants the canal unfilled for now. Two questions. I have some severe burning sensation after application of this product. Can calcium hydroxide cause some type of burning sensation being it is a disinfectant? Other question is which desensitizer do you feel is the best to calm nerves in a tooth?

                                    Brief Answer:
Where is burning exactly?
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Can you tell me where you gave burning exactly?
Deep in the tooth, in the gums or anywhere else?
Well, calcium hydroxide is suitable to disinfect and clean the tooth canals, and reduce pain.
But in your case the canals are not yer coated with Calcium Hydroxide , so it can take some time for the medication to reduce the infection and pain.
Are you advised antibiotics and painkillers?
Please write back.
Thanks
