Question: I suffer ulcerative colitis. I am experiencing mild Tinnitus - I suspect it may be linked to UC? How do I treat this problem - low level hush in ears (like air coming through an airconditioner vent).

Brief Answer: yes it can be related to your uc! Detailed Answer: hello it is possible that your tinnitus is related to your ulcerative colitis , or the medications you are taking for it! tinnitus or ringing sound in the ear can be caused due t a variety of reasons including nerve inflammation or damage due to drugs or auto immune diseases like diabetes , etc however it is impossible to confirm this with an audiogram , which is a test of the ear and for this you will have to meet your ent doctor. once the cause for the tinnitus is known , it can be treated , i would like you to meet your ent doctor and get the audiological testing done , please get back to me with the reports so that i a in a better position to help you. thanks

I had an audiogram done by a provide (not an ENT doctor ) and I have some hearing loss (she feels this is unrelated to my tinnitus). She felt the tinnitus would clear up naturally but I've had it for 9 weeks now and it reamins. The cause is probably related to inflamation (arising from ulcerative colitis). What treatments are available? I look forward to your reply.

Brief Answer: please upload your audigram! Detailed Answer: hello before i can make definite opinion , i would like to see your audiogram report myself and it would be very helpful if you could upload it for me. if the tinnitus s due to ulcerative colitis , it will subside when the disease is in remission and i am afraid there is no specific drug for tinnitus at present, you can try a tablet called ginkgo biloba which is marketed under various brands, once a day for 30 days, i have given this to many of my patients and they have been quite satisfied with it. please do send me the reports. thanks
