Posted on Tue, 22 Aug 2023
Question: I had a dental implant about 6 months ago .. it was due to a tooth resorption problem on number 13 tooth.. when they went to remove the tooth the root of the tooth had been resorbed so there was very little tooth to remove.. I was doing great until lately I feel the impant.. not all the time but every once in a while there is a little throb like pain and then it goes away.. I notice it more when I am exercising.. can you get a infection in a implant ? Is there things I should be doing for special care of a implant? I do chew sugarless gum am I aggravating the implant? Thanks so much! It is spring here with all the pollen can that affect it?

Brief Answer:
Please provide more details.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

As it is already 6 months there should be no pain now.

So can you please tell me that is there just throbbing pain present?

Is the tooth also placed over the implant or only there is implant under the bone?

Do you experience any gum bleeding or sensitive gum where the implant is placed?

How many sugarless gums do you chew daily?

Is there any pain present while biting, chewing etc?

Also do you have any latest X-ray or can you get one?

Please revert with answers.

It is not a real pain but I am aware of the implant like a little twinge.. it does not happen all the time but I do notice sometime when I am exercising it is like a pulsating awareness around the implant..I have a cap placed over the implant ..it does not seem sensitive to the bite and I do not have any bleeding .. I do not have a recent X-ray but I can get one if needed..I just have had so many ..I do not have a fever..can you get abscess on tooth implant? I chew a lot of gum at work not at home..maybe 3 pieces a day.. and I usually chew it for some time..could it be a problem with the tooth hat was resorbed? Thanks so much!

Also I am using a tooth whitening toothpaste could that contribute to it?

Brief Answer:
Does not look like infection.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Well, it does not look like infection however it can be slight inflammation.

No, does not sound like abscess.

You should limit chewing the chewing gums to just 1-2 a day.

Also please get an X-ray done so that I can have a better idea of any chances of infection or if the implant is appropriately fused to the bone or not.

I do not thing it is due to any other factors and you need to send me a latest X-ray so that I can assure you further.

Hope this helps.
