Question : My Dr put me on prescjptjon Previcid 30mg once a day for Acid Reflux. Plus a drug called Reglen? Is Reglen safe?

Hi,

I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.

Reglan (Metoclopramide) is a drug which is used to treat nausea,vomitings,GERD,heartburn and diabetic gastroparesis.

It should only be used as a reserve drug when the other treatments do not work because of it's major side effects.
It is not used in children,elderly and pregnant women.
It can cause adverse effects like extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS),movement disorders like tardive dyskinesia(TD),Parkinsonism,Neurolept malignant syndrome,depression and suicidal ideation.
These side effects are much prominently seen after long term use of this drug(greater than 12 weeks).

This drug is quite rewarding for short term control of symptoms of acid reflux but many safer alternatives are available.
