Dear Doctor I am 80 year old male.My doctor prescribed Istamet (50/500 mg) once daily.during the night i am taking glyciphege sr 500 mg.I have been taking Istamet since
9 months.But the sugar levels did not come down to my expectation.its 120 or 125 and sometimes it goes upto 130 also on fasting, and on post lunch 165-170-201-145-150.like that.
will you please advise whetherr i can take sitagliptin 50/500 in the night also by discontinuing 500 mg sr glyciphege.Or do you suggest a good and safe drug for my diabetes?

Your sugar level is not too much high.
Medicine dose titration should not be done on the basis of Fasting and post prandial sugar only.
These are not very much reliable.
Get HBA1C test done.
On the Basis of HBA1C report, medicine dose titration would be appropriate.

Tiday i tested at home AcuchecActive glucometer. The readings as follows
Before breakfast 136
Sitagliptin/metformin taken
After 2 hrs breakfast 125
After 2 hrs after lunch 132.

If hba1c is 6.7, then no need to change.
6.7 means adequate control.
And hba1c is supreme test, when it comes to sugar monitoring.
