Brief Answer:
Take anti-inflammatory drugs and apply warm compresses.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I read your query and here is my advice.
Taking count that he is having excruciating pain in his kidney area I can guess it can be a kidney stone.
I think he can take anti-inflammatory drugs such advil, diclofenac or ketoprofen.
Also he can take buscopan to relieve spasms of ureter.
Also he may need to apply warn compresses on the back or stay in hot bathtub.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks.
