Child Avoids Bottle Milk And Wants Mother's Milk. Is There A Way To Make Weaning Easier?

Question: Hi ,
My kid is not willing to take bottle milk. She avoids it to the maximum. We try to give somehow, but find it very difficult. She insists on mother's mik. Is there any way to make this process easier?
We are giving some solid foods like smashed vegetables, fruits, ragi, rice with dhal, idly etc, but her weight got reduced. She weighs 7.25kg now. What other solid foods can be given? Please advise.

Thanks.

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Please remember that your kid is behaving very naturally as breastfeeding is strongly advised for the first year of a child's life & actually recomended to continue till 2 years if feasible and acceptable to mother and baby .
If for any particular reason a mother wants to stop breastfeeding before the first year then the next best way is to feed the baby expressed breast milk / formula milk in a bowl and spoon . This is recomended especially in India to prevent infections / diarrhoeas caused by bottle feeding .
If mothers milk cannot be given then any formula or diluted pasteurized cows milk can be given ( cows milk best avoided till 1 yr of age).
So regarding acceptance of milk by baby , she is reacting normally and there is no additional benefit in it for the baby.

It's good that you have started appropriate solid foods and your baby is growing normally . She is not underweight for her age and if her weight loss is not severe then it could be a absolutely normal phase. Such minimal lag can occur due to increased activity of the baby ( crawling etc) and is not worrisome .Infact breastfed babies are known to gain less weight than formula fed babies but their immunity and overall development is much better .
Solid foods should include cereals like rice wheat ,pulses , raagi, fruits like banana , apples , chickoo, papaya etc, vegetables boiled and mashed and breakfast options like idly , upma , oats , porridge etc
I understand your concern as a vigilant parent but please do not worry , your baby is likely to gain weight appropriately and reach the target of tripling her birth weight at her first birthday .
Do continue breastfeeding if feasible and introduce top milk as a once daily serving in a bowl .You are providing her a good variety of solid foods too for complete nutrition so don't worry.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards
