Child Has Brief Loss Of Muscle Control In Neck And Pressure On Tongue. What Is It?
Question: My 15 year old daughter has brief loss of muscle control in her neck where here head falls to the her shoulder for a brief second or two. Simultaneously she experiences pressure on her tongue. This happens 3-4x's per year. Have you ever heard of Neck-Tongue Syndrome? Went to one neurologist a few years ago but the tongue where we decided to see if she grows out of it. Now the tongue symptom has generated subsequent to the visit. Any resources you can point out for additional research before setting up an appointment with a specialist, guessing go back to a neurologist. Thanks XXXXX

You daughter definitely has neck-tongue syndrome based on description you have given. Neck tongue syndrome is caused by subluxation (partial dislocation ) of 2 cervical vertebra or bones and this affects the blood supply to brain and later nerve supply. Based on my experience most of my patients with this syndrome have less attacks as they tend to adult hood(18 years) and usually after 18 years the syndrome disappears. she has few years to get to 18.She needs to avoid stress full exercises
You definitely need to see Neurologist to rule out cervical vertebra instability that might later over affect the blood supply to the brain.
Investigation like spine X-RAY, EEG, complete blood count and biochemical tests liver and renal function tests can be additional tests.
