Question : my 15 month old son had a cold, cough and high fever about a month ago. the doctor gave medicine for allergy, chest congestion, and antibiotics. the fever and cold went away, but once in a while he coughs two three times a day where i can hear the sound of congestion in chest. also, sometimes during the night, he coughs and it seems he is going to throw up. since this cough (even though twice in a day) has been going on for a month, i am worried that it may turn in to something else. i was wondering if it is ok to give ascoril syrup 2.5 ml thrice a day

                                    Hi XXXXXXX
It is common to have persistent cough after viral cold and fever lasting for a month and more..
Do not worry.
Is he able to take his feeds well and active and playing?
Only make sure that he does not have wheezing!
Your doctor can check for that.
Wheezing is also common in viral infections.
Ascoril expectorant should not be given to small chldren.
Plain ascoril can be given.
Only twice a day cough does not need anything.
However cough syrups are not recommended in kids especially less than 2 years
All the best
God bless
