Child Having High Fever And Intense Shivering. Any Idea What Is Going On?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Nov 2012
Question: My 3 year old has had two nights of a fever around 102. Tonight no fever, but tonight he has some very intense shivering. We saw the pediatrician yesterday who could not give us a diagnosis. Any idea what is going on? Should we be headed to the ER? The only other symptom he has is a slightly wet cough, that is sporadic and not intense.

Hi XXXXXXX,
Thanks for posting your query.
Your kid is having an infection. It needs investigation and child needs urgent treatment because wet cough is quite alarming finding.
Fever and wet cough is indicative of lower due to bacteria/virus. Sometimes initially there is a bacterial infection.
Fever of high grade and illness may be a manifestation of malaria/dengue etc, which needs investigation.
It would be worth while that child is taken to ER for urgent medical attention.
Hope I have answered your query.
