Question: HI DOCTOR,
MY SON IS 5 YRS AND 11 MONTH OLD, WITH 18 KG OF WT. HE NEVER EAT FOOD WITH INTEREST. HE NEVER ASKED FOR FOOD HIMSELF, LOOKS VERY WEAK. FEEL ACIDITY, LOOKS ANAEMIC, SOMETIME COMPLAIN FOR STOMACHE

Hi,
Thanks for your query.
I am really concerned that your child is not eating anything. Don't worry you belong to the club of majority of parents who feel that their kid is not eating anything.
Few tips,
1. First of all his expected weight for age is 20. So he is only 2 kg less for his age. So stop labeling him as very weak. He needs only 2 kg to catch up. As long as he is gaining weight, you need not worry.

2. Variety is the key to making kids to eat. Be creative while cooking foods.

3. Always eat as a family together. Avoid distractions like watching TV while eating. Slowly he will develop the habit of enjoying meals with parents.

4. Never force feed. The more you force the more oppositional he will become.

5. Give him energy packed healthy foods like bananas, full cream milk, egg with yolk, adding ghee to rotis, panneer, chikki, etc

6. After discussion with pediatrician, multivitamin syrups, Iron syrup and deworming for stomach ache can be tried.

7. Avoid spicy foods and aerated drinks it will prevent acidity.

Don't worry. All most of the kids go thru this phase and most of the parents worry. He will be alright. Take care.
