Child Is Suffering From Fever. Safe Medication?

Thanks for asking in Healthcare Magic.
Fever is a symptom and not a disease. Evaluation and treatment of the underlying cause is important. Viral infection is the common cause. Does she have cough, cold or rashes. If so you should see your treating Dr immediately as she will need additional drugs to treat the cause.
Fever with vomiting, diarrhea or signs of dehydration (the child will be dull, irritable, will have dry mouth, lusterless eyes and will pass less urine) should be attended immediately. She will need IV fluids in case of dehydration.
Paracetamol/ Acetaminophen suspension is given in the dose of 15 mg/kg every 6 hours. The maximum dose for a 1 year old child is 120 mg 4 times a day (each 5 ml of Paracetamol suspension usually contains 120 mg. Please verify the amount of drug per 5 ml before giving the drug, as different preparations are dispensed with different dosage). Do not give over dose.
You should give Paracetamol exactly every 6 hours as the action of the drug wanes off within 5 hours. Sponging with lukewarm water will help to reduce fever.
Give her plenty of fluids. Bland diet like bread, rice porridge are ideal. If the temperature does not come down within 12 hours after giving the drug then you should consult your treating Doctor immediately.
I hope this helps. Please ask me if you have any further queries. Take care of your daughter.
Regards.
