Child Taking Dexolac And Mother's Milk. Taking Nestum And Passing Stool Once In Two Days. Suggest A Diet Plan For Child Development?

Question: This is regarding diet plan for my kid
My daughter is 5 months and 14 days old. She weighs 6.6 kg, is active in general and sleeps for relatively less time compared to the kids of her age.
She is mainly on Dexolac 1.0 & mother’s milk. She has recently started taking Nestum (rice based) after completion of 5 months.
We sometimes feel whatever she is taking is not enough for her. Also, she is passing stools once in two days approximately after starting of Nestum which used to be daily earlier.
Considering the above details, please advise a good diet plan for now and future for my kid. Can we give raagi mix and some fruit extracts?
Thanks in advance

Brief Answer:
You can give mashed raagi and fruit extracts.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

The diet in infant from 6 months onwards is to to give breast milk (or formula milk if breast milk is not available) and introducing complimentary (weaning) feeds.

Complimentary feeds can be prepared at home or you can go for commercially available infant foods.

The complimentary food should be semisolid, soft, and in the mashed form.

As her age increases, you can give commercially available weaning food of different stages like stage 1, stage 2, and stage 3 as per her age.

As her weight is 6.6 kg at present, it seems the feeds are sufficient.

Passing stool once in two to three days around this age is a normal thing.

The best semisolid food to introduce as weaning food is rice based preparations such as cerelac or nestum rice.

You can offer her fruit juices and mashed fruits.

Mashed banana and boiled and cooked potato can be given in mashed form.

But I advise you to follow the basic principle in feeding the child:

1. Introduce one type of food at a time.

2. If you introducing any new variety of food, give it in small quantity.

3. Dont give two or more new varieties of foods at a time.

4. After introducing a food variety, if there is no problem with the particular
food, increase the quantity gradually over a week or 10 days.

5. Another new food variety should be introduced in a similar fashion after some
days once the child is accustomed to the previously introduced food.

You can introduce mashed fruit extracts and raagi in semisolid mashed form, but introduce them gradually in small quantity initially and observe for any problems.

Hope I have answered your query, if you have any clarification please let me know.

Regards.
