Question: 2year old son has tubes in his ears. He has a double ear infection and has a red bumpy raw looking rash around his ear canal and the skin around the ear. The smell of his ear is also fishy smelling. Is the rash a concern and could this be a fungal infection vs bacterial

I can feel your concerns.

This is superadded fungal infection which is most common complication around the ear canal . It needs to be treated with antifugal drugs as well as metronidazole for anaerobic bacteria cover.

Keep the ear dried of all the secretions for good recovery.
