Question : Chronic UTIs; this time Proteus Mirabilis, 100,000+. Ph 8.5; WBC:20-40; RBC:10;. Current Rx calls for Zosyn with A PICC line. Is there any oral antibiotic available to preclude the PICC line installation? This is the 3rd time we've needed a IV antibiotic and the cost of such is getting prohibitive. Patient is 79 yrs old, with chronic Interstitial Cystitis to complicate things. Any ideas?

Chronic interstitial cystitis itself is an aetiology for developing resistant bugs...Since this is the third time IV antibiotic therapy initiated, chances of developing resistance to antibiotics are also high (higher the chances, stronger the antibiotics and the only preferable route is, unfortunately, IV only...)
