Question : my son is taking lamictal for MDD as an add on to other medications. He is experiencing extreme anxiety and depression and I am very concerned that it could be caused by medication.
Brief Answer:
It is possible
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Lamictal is a drug with many (and frequent) side effects. Anxiety and depression are not the most common ones but they're fairly common (less than 10% but more than 1% of patients using the drug). If your son's symptoms occurred right after starting the drug then this is the most likely cause. Substituting another drug for Lamictal may help. Please keep in mind that treatment plans should only be modified by the treating doctor!
I hope you find this information helpful!
Kind Regards!
