Question : Could polyethylene glycol powder taken for constipation be cause of black tarry stool.?

                                    Brief Answer:
No
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
No, polyethylene glycol when used as laxative does not cause back stools.
Black tarry stools is most often a sign of upper GI bleed. This can be ruled out by a Gastro-duodenoscopy.
Sometimes foods can impart stool the back color if they bear a similar pigment.
Hope, I answered your query.
Wish you good health.
Regards,
