Question : I am a 70 year old male with an enlarged prostate.
When I feel the urge to urinate, the compulsion is so great
that I can barely make it to the bathroom in time.
I do not have a urinary tract infection.
What will help to alleviate this problem?

Hi,

In prostate enlargement, the problem is usually an obstructive flow pattern. This can often be helped by taking an alfa-antagonist pill, e.g. Tamsulosin. If the problem also is an overactive bladder, a cholinergic blocker may help. Lastly, a transurethral resection of the prostate is considered last resort if the above does not help.
