Question : My daughter has been diagnosed with breast cancer a d surgery is scheduled March 22, then she got strep throat and was treated for that. After being on antibiotic for strep she felt somewhat better but then broke out with a rash and has muscle pain across shoulder and down left side of back. She has had blood tests and all were negative. After reading about rheumatic fever symptoms I am really worried. Also has had exrays of chest Lungs are ok. Could you express your thoughts about this! I am terribly concerned. Thank you XXXX

Brief Answer:
Not rheumatic fever!

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Rheumatic fever happens about 2-4 weeks following infection with group A streptococcus. The short interval rules rheumatic fever out as an option as this requires so much and cannot be accomplished in less than 2-4 weeks.

Let her be managed as an allergy and all would be fine.

I hope this clarifies your doubts. I wish her a safe and successful surgery.
