Question : I was starting my second week after conception when I TOOK FLUCONOZOLE 150 MG. TOOK IT EVERY 72HOURS FOR A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES. WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF BIRTH DEFECTS? I HAVE READ HORRIBLE THINGS ON THE INTERNET. I AM VERY WORRIED THAT I could have hurt the baby.
Brief Answer:
Birth defects unlikely due to fluconazole
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
The high doses of fluconazole can lead to the birth defects in the fetus.
The doses should be as high as 400-800 mg taken altogether.
The dose of 150 mg taken at 72 hours interval is too low to pose any risk of congenital anomalies in the fetus.
I suggest you not to worry.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
