Question : Curious about extreme muscle soreness versus a possible injury that requires treatment. Strenuous activity including unfamiliar movements while drinking Saturday night/ Sunday morning followed by 2 hours of tennis without stretching on Sunday morning. Am hobbling with pain in upper achilles tendon area and mid calf area on inside and outside of the leg. Also tender at the top of the calf below the knee cap. Pain when walking when foot is flat or pushing off ground from walking. Pain to stand up and lean forward so when I am in a standing position I am leaning back on my heals. Also tender to the touch in all the areas listed above. Hoping it is just overused and requires a few days rest but curious if should go in to a Dr. sooner or take other measures?
Brief Answer:
Muscle spasm and mild sprain likely.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The pain and soreness that you are having is likely to be due to a muscle spasm and a mild muscle sprain and has been aggravated by dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and inadequate stretching.
You can increase the intake of electrolyte rich fluids and start with an oral muscle relaxant for relief.
Doing a hot compress, rest and application of local analgesic gel will also help.
In case there is a visible swelling or redness or acute pain or the tenderness increases then you need to consult an orthopedician for a direct examination.
Regards.
