I have a question regarding "Suicide Ideation" and hope you will help. Between the ages of 16-18, I once became intoxicated and, afterwards, pointed a gun, which I cannot recall if loaded or not, to my head, in order to "sense" what it would be like to commit suicide in that way. I cannot swear that I actually desired to take my life or to die then and don't remember wishing to do so before then or since, so am questioning if I should respond affirmatively to a medical history questionnaire, which asks if I have suffered from "Suicide Ideation?"
No, It was not suicidal ideation
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.
I read your query and understand your concerns.
From the available description it appears that the particular incident was not due to suicidal ideation. Probably it was due to influence of substance. While intoxicated in is common to develop disinhibition and loss the fear response as our senses do not work properly. What happened with you is same which occurs to almost everyone while intoxicated.
I do not think you need to mention it in questionnaire but if there is interview component is there you can bring this to notice of your doctor who will advice you accordingly.
I hope this answers you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
