Dear Doctor I M Writing To Get A Second Opinion

Question: Dear Doctor

I'm writing to get a second opinion about my grandmother's health condition. She was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis about 2 years ago. After medication with Prednisone, her condition improved. 2 months ago, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and accompanying symptoms of OCD and depression. She was prescribed Setraline (Asentra) and Dospeline.

Two weeks ago, my grandmother started showing symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis again. Do you think that the use of Setraline could be contributing to or even causing this relapse?

Thanks.

Best,

Brief Answer:
no its not related to

Detailed Answer:
Hello

I can under function and your concern and I am sorry for your grandmother'situation.

No, I don't think Sertraline is the cause of reactivation of lung fibrosis. It is not related to the situation.
You should know that lung fibrosis is a chronic disease which is nonreversible and in continuity. This means that there might have quiet periods and reactivation ones. Now it might be that something has triggered it again such as a viral infection, a high blood pressure too.

Nevertheless, she should be seen by her Pulmonologist who will evaluate her lung respiratory function with a Spirometry test.

Don't worry this a normal situation of the lung fibrosis.

I hope to have been helpful

Are you aware of this study?

Although it doesn't prove cause and effect, the use of SSRI is significantly associated with pulmonary fibrosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

You provide the info which states that she has already the lung fibrosis before taking SSRI medication.

In the official guidelines all over the world, these drugs are not listed as agents that can cause lung fibrosis.
