Question: Dear Doctor,

My daughter age 5 years and she is having throat pain and fever since 2 days. I have given 7 ml "Meftal P 100 MG Suspension" 3 times a day. After taking medicine she is not having fever only for 4-5 hours then after again she is getting fever.
Could you please suggest some medicine for throat pain and Fever?

Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
I understand that your child has throat pain for 2 days. Meftal p is a pain reliever and the dose you are giving is appropriate.
Mostly viral infections settle in 3 days but if bacterial, will last more. My tips to you
1. Try one more day with same medicine. Also you can give her plenty of liquids to keep hydrated. Ensure salt water gargling if possible.

2. Also try giving paracetamol syrup in between ( midway between 2 doses of meftal p) if fever is coming very frequently

2. If not improving, you need to get the throat examined. She may need antibiotics if there is evidence on examination.

I usually prescribe antibiotics like amoxicillin for at least five days for such patients in my clinic.

This is a prescription medicine which needs clinical examination by your doctor and his prescription.
