Question : Dear Dr ,
My four year old complaint of throat pain while drinking fluids . He is eating normal and everything else is normal . He complaint . He came home from preschool telling mummy he had a throat pain while he drink fluids .
The last time he had fish was 2 days ago. We are quite sure that we got rid of the bones if any . There was no complain for pain until this afternoon . Eating is fine too . I shone a torch and the throat is not red or sore . He seemed to be pointing the pain at the lower back of the throat below the middle of the neck .
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Ask him to gurgle with lukewarm water

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Throat pain during drinking fluids can occur due to a number of reasons. It could be due to:
* stomach acid regurgitating back into the throat
* asymptomatic tonsillitis
* fish bone
The latter seems less likely. Please check whether it is same with hot as well as cold water. As of now my suggestion would be to make him gurgle with lukewarm water. If it does not seem to resolve in a couple of days, it would be a good idea to visit an ENT doctor to get him evaluated.
I would insist you not to grow apprehensive.
Feel free to write back.
