Question : Dear all,

My mother has been recently getting pain within the hips/thighs and below for almost 12 days now. Pain is not severe usually however, pain sometimes comes in hard once or twice a day. The doctors here requested an mri on the pelvic hips. I have attached the report here.

We have been getting many opinions on treatement from a couple of doctors here but I feel that we are not fixed on any and thats why i would like a second opinion here.

Just for you to know.

a) She has a history with back problems and has done a surgery in the neck which ended up succesful. (5 years ago).

b) She has recently been diagnosed with CLL (Chronic Lymphosytic leukemia) about a month ago which is causing here to be stressed out heavily. Although I know the above is not related to the disease but I would like your confirmation as well.

c) She is a bit overweight.

I have shared the medications she is on prescribed from the doctors here.

Brief Answer:
Arthritic changes in hip joint.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have seen the attached MRI scan report. Your mother has degenerative changes in the hip and back joint that causes a pain - more while weight bearing.
The treatment options include pain killers, hot fomentation, lubricating agents like glucosamine sulfate, chondroitin , dycerin, etc and some life style modifications and physiotherapy.
Her doctor has prescribed pain killers and acidity decreasing medicines. She needs oral muscle relaxants and joint lubricants also for relief. In severe cases intra articular injections of steroids and hyaluronic acid may be needed after consultation with her orthopaedician.
I hope this answers your query.

How long should she be on medication?

Is this something normal? Is it recoverable?

Brief Answer:
Problem may increase with advancing age.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
These are age related degenerative changes and are not completely reversible. These are gradually progressive in nature. She needs to have medicine regularly for 5-6 months and after she is relived from pain, she needs to continue with regular exercise so as to decrease the further progression of the problem.

Hope my answer is helpful.
