Question : my son was diagnosed with rubella but got very ill and was admitted to hospital and diagnosed with the virus parvovirus and enlarged liver caused by this virus he is now having blood tests and they show high readings why is this and what can be done he is 40 years old he had a blood test and the result is still high he will have another in 2 weeks time

There is no reason to be so worried. This is usually caused by B19 parvovirus and sometimes is found in adults. Symtpoms are flu-like and sometimes man can develop arthritis,rash and hepatomegalia.Blood findings show elevated inflammatory markers and WBC. Also liver enzymes may be elevated in some cases and severe anaemia may develop. Anaemia should be treated in hospital.
In uncomplicated cases, home treatment (including rest, fluids, and pain relievers and fever reducing) is usually the only care needed for it. If complications develop, close monitoring by a health professional or hospitalization may be required,but coplications develop only in impaired immune system so if he is healthy in general there shouldnt be any problems.
His blood results and condition should improve in 7-10 days. If nit,then some other diseases should be considered.

Thank you for that it is now going on since the 11/4/13 he is improved but is still tired and has some stiffness is this normal
It is normal. He will recover soon. But just watch for some serious neurologic signs such as tingling in necka and hands, extreme headache, vision disorders and lethagy. Sometimes virus can cause meningitis and neurologic consequences but it doesnt seems to be in his case. Alslo anaemia can develop in parvo viral infections so it can cause tiredness,but you ll know is there anaemia when you do next blood workup.
