Do Femilon And Naturogest Have Long Term Side Effects?

Question: Hi,
Before marriage I used to get menstrual cycle 1 week late and was 54kgs. I got married on december 2012, I used I pill for 2 times in feb 2013. From then I suffered irregular menstrual cycle and my weight also increased to 60. Then I consulted doctor in August 2013, she gave Deviry and candid cl then I got menstrual cycle on time for few months. Later on the problem started again, I consulted another gynecologyst in XXXXXXX 2014. They did pelvic scan and found left ovarian cyst. The doctor then prescribed me to use Novelon one cycle. Then did a scan again in July 2014 and found no cyst. Again suggested me to use Novelon for two more cycles (till August). Again I started having irregular menstrual cycle for the last two months.

They have now suggested me to use Femilon for 4-6 cycles. As I am not planning for pregnancy for another year. They also suggest me to use Naturogest Sr 200 incase I plan to have kids and get regular menstrual cycle.

I am 56.5 kgs now . My Thyroid, Prolactin and Hemaglobin is normal but have antral gastritis. Can I use the above mentioned tablets (Femilon, Naturogest), will i gain weight because of using these tablets in future? will there be any side effects in future? will i get menstrual cycle regularly after completing the course?

Also planning to move to USA from XXXXXXX will the treatment be same there? also suggest me any precautions to take.

I can certainly understand your concern, though.

I have worked through your history and symptoms and following are my opinion about it-

-Yes, the drugs contain hormone in it and you may gain weight while you are on these tablets because they cause fluid retention; merely as the doses are low may be less weight gain.
-As such there is no serious side effects by employing these drugs, but yes, no drug is available without side effect.
-It may induce nausea, vomiting, headache etc.
-Usually femilon is used to regularize the menstrual cycle, but its effectiveness is not 100%.
-Yes, treatment will be same in XXXXXXX
-Femilon is used as a contraceptive also so if you are planning for pregnancy you should not need this medication.
-You should consume healthy and balanced diet rich in protein and low in carbohydrate, maintain your weight, do not take stress, do some yoga and meditation.

1.if i stop using these tablets, will i loss weight?
2.is there any weight gain after stopping medication as i heard from one of the doctor that after stopping the harmonal intake weight may gain?
3.we are moving to USA not XXXXXXX will the treatment be same there?
4.i.m suffering from antral gastritis will the be a problem during pregnacy?

These are my opinion about your inquiries-

-If you stop taking familon your weight becomes normal, but it will require some time.
-Yes, it is true sometimes when you stop taking hormonal pill your weight will increase but this event can vary from person to person.
-Yes, your treatment will be most probably same, but depends on your treating physician.
-Antral gastritis symptoms may aggravate during pregnancy.
