Brief Answer:
Surgery may be needed only if other methods are not effective.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

There are several ways of removing debris in the ear without surgery.
- You can try at home to gently shake it out without force.

Some of the non surgical methods that doctors use to remove debris are:
- Tweezers or forceps can be used to reach in and grab the debris with the help of an otoscope
- Suction can be used to suck out the debris
- Irrigation of the canal with warm water to clean out debris.
- If these methods are non effective the doctor may choose surgery to remove the debris

After the removal I suggest taking a cycle of antibiotics to prevent further infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
