Question : Hi,
I am taking 10 mg/day of amlodipin. After 2 years now, it seems I have symptoms of calcium deficiency. Do I need to change the blood pressure medicine? What other types/mechanisms for BP drugs are there?

Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I understand your concern and would explain that first it is important checking vitamin D and Parathormone plasma levels for possible deficiency, which is the most common cause of low calcium levels.

The second thing to take calcium supplements.

I don't think that amlodipine is the cause of low calcium levels. It may also be related to low intake.

Anyway, there are a lot of antihypertensive drugs with different mechanisms of action , for example :
- ACEI ( lisinopril, ramipril, etc.), inhibitors of acetilcholinesterase, which is an enzyme.
- ARB ( olmesartan, irbesartan, etc.) Angiotensine receptor II blocker
- Beta- blockers ( carvedilol, bisoprolol)
- diuretics ( hydrochlorthiazide, torasemide)
- central anti- hypertensive drugs ( clonidine, methyl-Dopa, etc.)

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
