Do Lopressor And Plavix Cause Severe Muscle Pain?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Jan 2017
Question: My wife had two strokes in July, both from blockage. Is home now and taking Lopressor, Plavix, asprin, statins, and humolog before each meal and 70/30 insulin before bed. She has been home since late August. In last two weeks she has developed pain in hands, shoulders, back and chest that she describes as if someone hits her. Is this a side effect of one or more of the medications? She exercises daily on nordic bike for 10 minutes and has fairly stable blood sugar and blood pressure readings.

Brief Answer:
Statins may cause muscles pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Statins may cause muscles pain, so, this possibility should be taken in consideration and discussed with your wife's Doctor.

In my opinion, statins should be stopped or lowered as dosage for a while, if your wife's condition allows that.

Another possibility of your wife's pain is post stroke pain, if stopping statins doesn't result in pain improvement.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards.
