Do Oxycodone And Morphine Cause Elevation Of The Liver Enzymes?

default
Posted on Sat, 8 Oct 2016
Question: my wife is 76 years old with severe back problems. Her doctor has had her on Oxycodone for over a year and recently added Morphine. Her Liver enzymes are elevated and now her doctor wants her to have a liver biopsy. Could this just be a side affect of her medication? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Medication adverse effect

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. With use of oxycodone and morphine for back pain, the pharmacodynamic synergism of both the drug or each one alone can cause abnormal liver functions tests by raising enzymes and jaundice level. So i would like you to visit a hepatologist, let them decide if the biopsy is necessary or just quitting medication and using some low dose alternative can reduce liver enzymes in blood or not, other wise liver biopsy, but like any other work up, liver biopsy comes at the end and should be left as such.

i hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
