Do Ozurdex Injections Reduce Swelling In Eyes?

default
Posted on Tue, 15 Dec 2015
Question: My wife has received a series of Ozurdex injections in her left eye. Does the drug help swelling in the right eye, as well as the left eye, or does she need a separate injection in the right eye? Currently only her left eye receives eye drops for pressure control.

Brief Answer:
Administration to one eye does not affect the other eye

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
This medicine when given in the left eye will not affect the right eye and hence separate injection has to be given for the right eye as well, if that is deemed required.
Tonometric measurements of the right eye need to be done in order to assess if the eye pressure is raised on the right side. It is only if the IOP (intraoptic pressure) is found to be increased on the right side that drops need to be administered for that eye.
Let me know if I could be of further assistance.
Regards
