Question : I had a sore throat with my rhythm ear hurting on Sunday evening and started gargling with apple cider vinegar water for the past four days 3xs a day. Sore throat went away but the area behind my right ear is tender and sore and hurts to turn my head. It feels like there is a knot in my neck and my jaw is getting sore. I am almost 70 (F) and have never had any problems with my ears. No fever, no pain in the ear, no drainage, or redness around the ear. Just hurts to turn my neck and head and one extra strength Tylenol is not helping with the pain behind my ear. Should I wait to see a doctor tomorrow or go to the ER (which I HATE to do with a purple passion!!!

Brief Answer:
possible inflammation of salivary gland, detailed guidelines provided.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I have read your query thoroughly.

* As per the symptoms evaluation, this sounds to be inflammation involving
salivary gland of right side neck with referred pain behind the ear.
* Guidelines at present

- Drink more liquids to maintain hydration.
- Continue gargles.
- Take turmeric powder ( 2 gm in 25 ml of boiled milk ) morning and evening for
best anti microbial action and fast recovery.
- Apply ice over tender areas 2-3 times a day.

- Intake of ibuprofen ( 400mg ) 3 times a day with antacid if no history of drug
sensitivity for primary pain relief.
- You can wait to see doctor tomorrow ( for possible need of antibiotic ), there is
no need for ER visit.

Wish you fine recovery.
Welcome for any further assistance.

Regards take care.
