Do Height Of A Child Increase After Puberty?

default
Posted on Thu, 10 Dec 2015
Question: My daughter is 10yrs 7months old and attained puberty last week. I was expecting this as she had white discharge. As i had a fear about her height growth i joined her in gym from may 2015 onwards. There they give her stretching excercise and also cycling weight lifting. When joined in gym she was just 28kg and height 142.5cm. Now she is 35kg and 149cm.
I'm just 150cm and my husband 171cm.I'm afraid whether she will also be short.
She drinks horlicks in milk 400ml. 3eggs a day. And in each meal we give her some form of proteins and vitamins.
Please advice me how to take care of her.
After 13days of attained puberty again we are sending her to gym. We have not informed gym about this.
She had bleeding just one day

Brief Answer:
don't worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Regular physical activity like outdoor play is enough at this age.
I wouldn't recommend hard workouts like gym.
She can still grow for a year or two.
Good nutrition ( which is exactly what you are giving) is enough for gaining height.
Cycling swimming jogging are good aerobic workouts to improve body metabolism.
Continue current diet. Give her plenty of fruits and vegetables too to improve micronutrients in diet.
Wishing your child good health

Dear doctor
In gym they are particularly giving stretching excercises mostly it will be power yoga postures.
Because of that only i accepted for gym.
Is it okay?
And please inform me whether she will grow taller atleast 5cms if continued in these excercises. Anyway I've subscribed the gym only till XXXXXXX 2016.
I came to know that excercises will delay periods. That's also one of the reason.

Brief Answer:
Yes fine

Detailed Answer:
No need to worry
Yes you can allow that kind of exercises, it's fine.
Keep hopes positive.
She will grow more in the next 12 months for sure.
There will be a spurt now at puberty.

Thanks a lot for trusting us
