Question: Hi

I have a query need help.
I have given up sports or any other physical workout because i think i will have cadiac arrest. No one in our family has had any cardiac issues. What has happened to me was i was playing football when suddenly i felt heartbeat i thought i will faint or pass out my body felt numb but once i rested on side i was normal. What could it br? My GP said anxiety. I have had 3 ECGs all fine.
What does a ECG show/detect?
I realky will appreciate any help? Shall i go back in sports?

Hello.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query.

Your symptoms are seems to be related with anxiety than with a heart problem.

An ECG can show the heart rhythm ,the regularity of your heart beats to exclude arrhythmia , it evaluates the heart's electrical activity,if the blood supply of the heart is adequate.
It evaluated if the heart's function is normal or not.

The fact that ECG is normal and that you don't have any other symptoms that would indicate a heart problem ,it doesn't seem to be of concern.
I would suggest to do an Heart ultrasound that would evaluate the structure of the heart and if everything is normal, then you don't have to worry about heart problems and can go back to sports.
The episode of tachycardia probably was related with the physical effort or a benign arrhythmia and it is not of concern .

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you need further help.

Take care.

Hello.

The episodes you have experienced most likely are palpitations and the cause of these palpitations might be tachycardia, benign arrhythmias or other causes not related to heart like hyperthyroidism, hypoglicemia (low blood sugar ),anemia or anxiety episodes.

They doesn't seem to be of concern but I would suggest to do a heart ultrasound just to confirm that the structure of your heart is normal (excluding conditions like Mitral Valve Prolapse which is a benign finding but can cause such symptoms).
If you continue to experience palpitations (fast heart beats or the feeling of skipping a beat) you may need to do a Holter monitoring ECG (which records ECG for 24-48 h ) or an Event monitoring,a type of take-home device that you activate only when you feel palpitations.
-A stress test may be done. This is a test that records the ECG in physical activity. This may help to detect arrhythmias that occur during exercise.
-Testing your thyroid function is recommended.

A chest X-ray doesn't evaluate the structure of the heart ,it just can exclude major changes in the structures of the heart and major blood vessels.
So I would suggest to do a heart ultrasound.
I would suggest to avoid alcohol and caffeine because they can trigger palpitations and try to manage stress.

Take care.
