Do One Contract STDs From Using Someone Else's Razor?

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Dec 2015
Question: I accidentally used someone's razor but didn't cut myself. I'm mainly worried because this person is dating someone that has used IV drugs and I'm so overcome with anxiety I can't function. Do I need to get tested for anything over this? Could I have cut myself but not notice?

Brief Answer:
Less chances without the cut, but microbleeds are possible on shaving!!!

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the consultation at my virtual clinic!
I have carefully worked through your case, and can well realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns today and will put my best efforts to get you out of this situation.

Maybe there was no visible cut mark and you noticed no blood came out of the area but there are always chances for microbleeds that go unnoticed mostly.

To see the risk to you we have to know his risk factors and being an IV drug user it is highly likely to have some transmissible blood borne disease. The infections transmitted most commonly in this way are viral hepatitis, HIV and others.

It is better to get tested for:-
CBC with ESR and differential
HBSAg-ELISA
Anti HCV-ELISA
Rapid plasma reagent(RPR)testing
HIV serum antibodies-ELISA and Western Blot.

Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you with expert opinion.
